Anne Baker
Chair
Anne joined the Otis Board in June 2019 and was appointed as chair on 30 September 2021. She brings a broad range of experience in the not-for-profit and charitable sectors in operational management, governance, risk and compliance. Anne understands the important role of connecting with friends and families to assist in restoring a person’s wellbeing. Anne is committed to working with the Otis Board and team to ensure the continued provision of quality ‘stays’ to individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
Andrew Barling OAM
Non-Executive Director
Andrew founded The Otis Foundation in 2000 and has worked since that time to provide women with breast cancer and their loved ones with the gift of retreat accommodation, so that they may temporarily escape the psychological and emotional challenges that accompany a breast cancer diagnosis. Andrew also leads a busy life as a Thoracic and General Surgeon across 5 hospitals in metropolitan and regional Victoria and has contributed to the community more broadly through his time as a Director with the Breast Cancer Network Australia and as a previous Chair and Director of the Otis Foundation.
Sara Jorgensen
Non-Executive Director
Sara joined the Otis Board in July 2021, bringing her broad range of experience in cancer and breast care nursing. Sara has a strong research background, has been successful in grant applications and has published in the field of Psycho-oncology. Sara is a passionate advocate on behalf of individuals, their carers and families when experiencing cancer. As a practicing breast care nurse Sara’s knowledge is contemporary and her appointment provides the Board with ‘on the ground’ expertise. Sara looks forward to establishing a research agenda for Otis.
Alison McDowell
Non-Executive Director
Alison joined the Otis Board in November 2022 and brings a broad range of experience in marketing, branding and strategic planning. With 25 years’ experience across a range of industries including tourism, Alison is well connected to assist in retreat acquisition and expanding the Otis gift. As the founder of Roadmap Strategy, a marketing partner agency Alison understands how to connect businesses with not-for-profit agencies. Alison is committed to working with the Otis Board and team to further engage with businesses to ensure that the continued provision of ‘stays’ to individuals and families affected by breast cancer can keep pace with the demand.
Michael Smyth
Non-Executive Director
Michael Smyth is an experienced senior manager who has worked in government and private sector businesses. Skilled in executive leadership, culture change, strategic thinking, and IT service management. Holding a degree in Computer Science, Diploma of Financial Planning and a Diploma of Company Directorship from Australian Institute of Company Directors Michael has a strong understanding of Board governance. With his strong IT background and previous experience as Chair of the MAV IT Committee, Michael’s contribution to The Otis Foundation will include assisting with ITC program procurement and cyber risk mitigation. When not working Michael is very involved in the Bendigo and District sporting scene and has previously held the role of President of the Bendigo Tennis Association.
